Hutting Yachts Open Day – Saturday, October 17th 11:00 – 17:00

On Saturday, 17 October, we will open the doors of our shipyard in Makkum for a day filled with sailing yachts, stories, craftsmanship and inspiration.

Step aboard several Hutting yachts, explore our brokerage and refit projects, browse the stands at our mini-market inside the shipyard, and be inspired by our lecture programme (see the schedule below).

At the heart of the shipyard, you will find our mini-market where you will find a variety of stands dedicated to all things sailing.

You can also browse books by Dick Huges, sailing accessories from Tastbaar and the beautiful Fender Lights by Linda in Friesland.

12:30–13:00 | Krekt Sailing – Choose the Topic!

Krekt Sailing offers a range of courses for experienced sailors. Which topic would you like to learn more about?

  • Passage planning: How to prepare for a multi-day voyage or ocean crossing
  • Manoeuvring under power: How to navigate and moor confidently at quays, in marinas and in locks
  • Emergency repairs: The most essential repairs you can carry out yourself while sailing

13:30–14:30 | Astrid Pascal & De Kapitein

The authors of the bestselling book De Kapitein en Ik will share their remarkable story and experiences at sea. Crossing an ocean completely unprepared and without any sailing experience: Astrid did it, together with her captain. Their book is filled with inspiration, humour and depth.

The book will, of course, be available to purchase during the Open Day. In the meantime, you can read more here.

15:00–15:30 | Book Presentation: Omweg over de Oceaan

Lars and Kirsten sailed the ultimate Atlantic circuit aboard their iconic Victoire 933. From the Faroe Islands and Iceland to Brazil and Suriname, they will share stories of their remarkable adventures and the romance of sailing.

16:00–16:30 | Tim Lemeer & Liesbeth Brederode about weather routing

Discover everything you need to know about weather routing: how can you use weather information to make better decisions at sea? Cruising and racing duo Tim and Liesbeth will share their knowledge and experience, followed by the opportunity to step aboard their Sweden Yachts 41 Resonate and explore the related technology, tips and techniques in practice.

In-Depth First Aid at Sea Clinics -- times t.b.d. by application

Rob Sijbers from Medical Sailing will host practical clinics on first aid at sea. The exact times will be scheduled based on registrations during the Open Day.

And, Last but definitely not least:  of course, refreshments will be provided. A food truck inside the shipyard will serve soup and sandwiches, with coffee, tea and sweet treats available throughout the day.
