50 years of craftmanship<\/h1>\n

As determined as he was, he built his first sailing dinghy when he was 15 years old in his parents\u2019 garage. The dinghy, an boat type: Optimist, which was a present for his two younger sisters. In his spare time and with the help of his older brother Henk, who studied physics, plans for the \u201cSchakel\u201d were modified. The choice of materials, the hull shape, the sails and the centerboard were tweaked in the details. The result: The first race of the \u201cSchakel\u201d with sail number 2213 (during Sneekweek 1975) won by a landslide. In a double garage in Akkrum, without toilet, heating or daylight, many \u201cSchakels\u201d, \u201cValkens\u201d, \u201c16m2\u201d and \u201cRainbows\u201d were built which all became successful on the Dutch racing scene. The yacht was built and the owner sailed her around the world successfully. Tjerk developed the design further in cooperation with the designer D.Koopmans and the result was the first Hutting 40, which was launched in 1989.<\/p>\n

Having attended numerous boatshows in The Netherlands, Germany and England, the Hutting 40 soon became known in the cruising world for its seaworthiness and classic lines.[\/vc_column_text][\/qode_elements_holder_item][\/qode_elements_holder][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” el_class=”nimobi”][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”120px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” el_class=”tekstenfoto”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4500″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” qode_css_animation=”” el_class=”mobi”][qode_elements_holder number_of_columns=”two_columns” switch_to_one_column=”768″ alignment_one_column=”center”][qode_elements_holder_item vertical_alignment=”middle” advanced_animations=”no” item_padding=”40px 20%”][vc_column_text]The company boomed as a result of the many orders coming in for the Hutting 40 and soon the company needed to expand it’s production capabilities. For this reason a new yard was developed and built in Makkum in 1993. Following on from the concept of the Hutting 40’s new designs were developed in close cooperation with D.Koopman, it resulted in the Hutting 45 and the Hutting 50. Our dedication to performance led to the optimization of the classic Hutting design with the creation of the Hutting 46 Explorer<\/strong>, designed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects<\/strong>, and the introduction of the modern Hutting 52<\/strong> in collaboration with Hoek Design<\/strong>.

What started as a personal dream naturally evolved into a true family business \u2013 not something Tjerk ever planned, but perhaps inevitable, given the deep roots of sailing and yachtbuilding that run through the family.<\/p>\n

For over a decade, his wife Welmoed<\/strong> (administration) and daughter Margriet<\/strong> (marketing & communications) have also been an integral part of the team, making Hutting Yachts<\/strong> a genuine family enterprise.<\/p>\n

While Tjerk now enjoys his retirement sailing his Lemsteraak<\/strong> and racing in the Regenboog<\/strong> class, his family continues to carry forward the shared passion \u2013 guided by his well-known motto:\u201cDo what makes you happy, and success will follow.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
