Lectures

12.00 – 13.00

Luc Overtoom – ‘A world trip with a mission’ – ‘Seven Seas’

Luc Overtoom sailed around the world in 2 years with his sailing boat “Cardo” with an extra mission: making a sailing dream come true and an international fundraising project for the VUmc Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA). He made his childhood dream come true by sailing around the world after he lost his wife Trudy. They had planned this trip together, but fate decided otherwise. The book  “Seven Seas” – about mourning, resilience and adventure – was published at the end of October 2021 and quickly became a bestseller! In his book and in his lecture, he will talk about his world trip on board with 36 different passengers, but also about mourning and how you find strength in realising your dreams and seeking out adventure. Curious? Read more about Luc, his journey and his book here. (The book is for sale via the webshop and will also be available during the open day. The full amount will go to the CCA).

14.00 – 15.00

Paul Peeters – CAMR: sea sailing race between the Netherlands and Norway

After having sailed the CAMR four times with his Hutting 40 ‘Brandaen’, Paul Peeters and his crew won 1st place in his class on 16th July 2022! The Colin Archer Memorial Race is a 400 mile sea sailing race from Lauwersoog (Netherlands)– Larvic (Norway). During his Lecture, Paul will share practical tips and tricks for sea sailing competitions and answers questions such as: how do you prepare for such a sailing race? What should you pay attention to during the race? And what should you pay attention to when forming a winning crew? For more information about the CAMR, click here.

Harry Amsterdam – optimising sail management

We will continue with the same theme: how do you optimise sailing performance by trimming the sails correctly and responding to weather changes on time? Multiple sailing champion “Harry Amsterdam” will be sharing practical and handy tips for every sailor. After his years of expertise in the development of sails, he has several titles to his name in the Rainbow competition class and as a sea sailor. He likes to apply his many years of experience at Races such as North Sea Regatta, CAMR and Dutch and European Championships during lectures and as a sailing consultant!
